P90: Like P90X without the "Extreme"
The newest addition to the Beachbody family of workout programs was recently announced and I could not be more excited!
You see, Beachbody does already offer plenty of programs for people who are new to exercise or who have physical limitations. There really is something for everyone. BUT our mainstream programs... the ones we are best known for... tend to be the really challenging ones. Many of these are high-impact and if you aren't careful or don't already have a good sense of how to work safely in extreme exercise, your joints will take a pounding. Of course we all have to take responsibility for our own safety, but I would have for someone who's new to exercise try one of these programs and have a bad experience, ending up in pain or injured. In the fitness groups I lead, I want everyone to experience the sheer JOY that comes with regular exercise and being fit.
Enter P90. This program doesn't come out until September but you can bet I'll be one of the first to order it and I'll be leading groups with it right off the bat. You've probably heard of P90X... right? Well, the X stands for "extreme." I haven't done P90X, but just from the video excerpts I've seen of the workouts, it really does look extreme... jumping airborne push-ups and the like. I'm all for challenging myself, but for someone who's just starting to exercise, that is not going to be a fun workout. P90, on the other hand, is specifically designed for people who are just starting to get into shape or getting back to it after some time away... a program that will make you stronger and get you fitter without being so exhausting as to be demoralizing. Because let's face it, it's no fun to pop in a workout video and realize you can only keep up with 10 percent of it! I'm so excited about this program because it brings the name recognition of the P90X family to a whole new program that provides a bridge into the more challenging programs should somebody complete it successfully and decide they want to go further.
