When I'm following an intense exercise program, I'm hungry all the time. After a 3 p.m. "second lunch," I have dinner around 6... and then by the time I go to bed, I'm starving.


I've found that Recharge from the Beachbody Performance system not only provides a low-calorie (and high-protein) snack to fill me up just before bed, but it actually eases soreness, aids muscle repair, and improves my sleep quality in the process.


This protein drink has a delicious vanilla flavor that reminds me of a milkshake! I blend it together with 12 ounces water and a splash of milk, and sometimes a spoonful of almond butter. It is most effective when consumed within an hour of falling asleep.


I love all of the products in the Performance line, but this one is by far my favorite and the one I feel I can't get by without! Here's what's on the ingredient list:

  • Micellar casein (a form of milk protein ideal for overnight muscle repair due to its slow digestion and absorption rate)

  • Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs): L-leucine, valine, isoleucine, L-glutamine (assist in overnight muscle repair and growth)

  • Tart cherry (a powerful anti-inflammatory botanical; in addition to alleviating muscle soreness, consuming this supplement regularly has really helped me with menstrual cramps)

  • Chamomile, an herbal relaxant that helps with sound sleep

  • Natural sweeteners: non-GMO beet sugar, stevia leaf

  • Natural flavorings: vanilla, salt

  • Xanthan gum (makes it smooth when blended)
